Artist Statement
Painting is my way of honouring the quiet lives that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
Working primarily in oil, I paint animals, landscapes and people encountered through everyday life. Living between an island in the Caribbean and the countryside of France, I am drawn to ordinary moments that carry a quiet sense of presence — moments that ask nothing of us except that we slow down long enough to notice them.
Rather than documenting a place or a person, I hope to evoke the atmosphere surrounding them. Transparent layers of paint are built slowly over time, allowing memory, light and feeling to emerge together. The paintings are not intended to explain a story but to create space for reflection, where viewers may discover their own.
Again and again I return to themes of stillness, kinship and belonging. Whether painting a wandering donkey, a solitary figure or an open field beneath a wide sky, I am searching for the quiet dignity that exists in simply being.
My hope is that these paintings offer an invitation to linger — and perhaps to notice the extraordinary grace that so often lives within ordinary life.
